Some of the responses were about time management and productivity. I expected these type of responses from the people who were already making money online and more than likely they had been in business for sometime.

The majority of the responses however came from those who tried to make money online but were unsuccessful so far. They said that it was hard to decipher which programs were legitimate and which were scams. Some even felt that the possibility of making money online was not real. 

Um… Actually it is very real.

I felt that the only reason why someone wonders whether a program is a scam or not and whether the ability to make money online was real was because they probably tried it and failed miserably.

Usually when you fail at something you have a propensity to blame that thing and say that it did not work or was a scam. It was for this reason that I wanted to set the record straight and outline the real reason why most people are not making money online. Secondly and most importantly I am going to give you the exact ways you can fix it.

8 Reasons Why Most People Fail To Make Money Online And What To Do About It

Reason #1

Negative Mindset

So you’re telling me, that I have not made any money online because of how I’m thinking?

Yip that’s exactly what I am telling you.

I see many people who say that they are afraid to start an online business because they are afraid of losing money and of failure. Or they are afraid to approach an online job because they are afraid of rejection.

Do you ever wonder about the simple phrase “think positive”? It all derives from the concept of the law of attraction, that whatever we think, say or believe is what we project and thus shapes our reality.

Therefore when you claim that you are afraid of losing money and of failing, there will always be something to hinder your progress because of those beliefs and thoughts.

How To Fix It

Start thinking positively and believe in yourself that you can be successful and make money online. Believe with every inch of your imagination that it is possible.

When you have that belief opportunities open up for you by showing you ways that you can be successful. For example, you may meet someone who is willing to coach you and show you how to make money online. Or you may be presented with an amazing opportunity to work for someone on mutually favourable terms.

It’s amazing how when you are positive, positive things happen to you in return.

To help you think positively you should invest in personal development books by Napoleon Hill, Dale Carnegie or Jack Canfield.

These are authors who write on the principles of success and the power of positive thinking.

Reason #2

Having Unrealistic Expectations

I don’t blame you at all for having expectations such as being able to make “$1000 a day”. Too often I see advertisements claiming that you can make six figures in three months. This sets an ideal for the reader that achieving such a goal is possible in such a short space of time.

Can anyone make six figures in three months? Absolutely! But there is a process.

Since the start of my online journey last year, I have come to realise that there is nothing like an overnight success. Well unless you win the lottery!

Every successful person has had many trials and failures, which has spanned months or years. That means that they did not wake up one day and make a million dollars.

It is more than likely that over time, they have tried to make money, failed at their attempts, tried again and finally figured it out because they had the right information at the right time.

What you don’t see however is their struggles.

How To Fix It

Set a realistic goal for yourself of how much money you’d like to earn and the time you will give yourself to earn it.

Then find ways on the internet to earn money and STICK TO IT! Finding the right ways can be difficult if you do not know which sources to rely on.

Reason #3

The Shiny Object Syndrome

This is the syndrome that gets most people failing at making money online all the time.

The situation goes something like this. They have tried one thing, when they don’t see a quick return, they move on to the next that comes along to distract them.

This is the main reason why most people do not make money online because they are not taking the time to learn how the program works and master it, to start making money.

How To Fix It

You may have been working a normal job where you go to an office and work under a boss. However you want to transition to working from home where you create your own hours and make an income for yourself. You therefore decide to start your own business and invest into a program to start earning an income online.

The difficulty with this transition is that there is no employee to entrepreneur mindset shift. Too many people still think like the employee. They expect to get paid at the end of every fortnight or month.

Unfortunately as an entrepreneur it is a lot different to a job. Firstly there is a risk that you will make no money or you may make some money but not immediately.

Just because you have not made any money yet, does not mean that the program does not work. It simply means that you need to give the program enough time to work for you whilst you work on building your business. So be patient!

Building your business includes, setting up a website, creating content for your website, getting people to see your website, promoting and marketing your website to get traffic and eventually making sales or commissions.

My advice therefore is to stop jumping from program to program. Find ONE program or business opportunity that you enjoy and work on making it grow.

Therefore be persistent with that one opportunity until it works for you. In this online world, there is going to be many distractions.

To avoid the distractions you have to discipline yourself. How I did this, I found one program that I could trust and I learnt from the creator of that program and remained persistent.

Any person that tried to entice me with any other thing, I ignored. I outright told them that I was not interested.

This is how I finally started making money online because I was committed to one product alone and mastering that one product.

Reason #4

No Community For Support

When you believe in a goal and you are trying to achieve it you may have people who will try to convince you that the possible is impossible.

These people will try to steer you off course and prevent you from pursuing your goals.

Trying to start a business online and make money from it, can be lonely. But don’t try to travel the road alone.

There will be times when you will have bumps along the way and whilst your strength and tenacity will determine whether you will be able to cross those hurdles, sometimes it is best to have a bit of support.

People who fail to make money online often try to do it alone without asking for help and support. This is not the right way to do it.

How To Fix It

I love networking with people and reading their journey and success stories. This is what keeps me motivated and inspired to keep going.

I would therefore recommend that you join a group of people who are like you. They have the same drive as you. They understand what you are going through and they too may have gone through or are going through the same thing so it is easy to relate to them.

It feels great when you can reach out to someone who understands your passion and you can connect with them through that common goal.

You may be able to find focus groups in your own community on Facebook.

Most online programs that teach you how to make money online have their own Facebook group. Join it and network with its users so you can always keep your mind focused.

Reason #5

No Proper Training Or Education

Making money online is a skill. It is something that you learn how to do.

Just like with a new job you need to learn how to use the company’s systems and understand their procedures. There is always some form of training in order to integrate into the business’ community.

The same is with any business that you want to start. Sadly, people who do not make money online do not take the time to learn the skill by getting proper training.

How To Fix It

Invest in a training course.

If you want to learn how to create an online store learn the principles of eCommerce.

If you want to learn how to sell products learn the principles of internet marketing.

If you want to learn how to do affiliate marketing, learn the principles of affiliate marketing.

Whatever area of expertise you want to learn and if you want to be successful at it, you should start with proper education.

When I started my business online I knew nothing about marketing. So I decided to take a course in marketing and master it.

It was through that course that I understood how to sell a product, why traffic was so important to my business and why I should build an email list.

Reason #6

Do Not Want To Invest In Themselves

If you are failing at making money online it tells me that you simply do not understand the process.

Here’s what a typical conversation is like with someone who simply does not get it:

Them: I purchased a program and it said it will help me make money but I have not made a dime.

Me: What have you done with the program to make money?

Them: Nothing. I thought I had to just buy it and it will help me make money??

A lot of people are still uneducated about how to make money online because they do not spend the time learning how to make money online. They do not invest the time nor the money to learn and this is a major pitfall. 

And surprisingly they just do not want to. It’s no surprise that so many people fail to make any money online.

How To Fix It

As you learn the process of making money online, you should be treating this as a business. It should be a long term venture.

When you have a long term vision and if you want to learn everything about making money online then it is only obvious that you should invest in yourself and improve your skills.

Free is good. No doubt I use a lot of free tools for my business but I also smartly invest in other resources that will help push my business to the next level and therefore make more money.

How can you invest in yourself?

Learn something new. Ask yourself what do you need to understand how to make money online or start a successful business?

Is there someone who can coach you? Is there a skill set you can learn?

Do you want to learn a new skill? If so find someone who can teach you and be prepared to compensate them for their time.

You can also invest in yourself through time. Take the time to change your beliefs, if you’re always thinking negatively.

Have a power hour and meditate to exercise your mind with good thoughts. This helps to make you more jovial and excited about whatever it is you’re pursuing.

You can also invest in yourself by reading self help books. Self help books are a great source of inspiration and motivation.

Never stop learning. Investing in yourself is the most powerful way to grow into a marketable asset which provides huge returns when you stick to a plan.

Reason #7

No Research Into Program And Joining Business Models That May Be Illegitimate

There was a time when the internet was profuse with programs which promised that your money would be doubled in 90 days if you “invested” money into the “system”.

A lot of people were attracted by the claim and naturally they would join but two months later, they would see none of their money back as the company that made the claim would fold.

This is what happens when you do not research the legitimacy of such programs.

Everyone is responsible for the actions that they take. Just because one program is illegitimate does not mean that all are.

How To Fix It

In order to make real money online, you should be joining programs which are completely transparent and legal in the eyes of the law. Here are a few things you should look out for to determine whether a program may be legitimate:

Promise of a fast income there is no way that you can earn a fast income online. There is nothing such as a get rich quick program even though they represent themselves in this way. So when someone promises that you can make money in a short period of time, this is a strong indication that something is fishy and you should look elsewhere.

Urgency Tactics if someone is using strategies to put you in a panic to buy something I would be concerned. Urgency tactics are well known marketing strategies used to manipulate the psychology of a potential customer. Be careful with this and take the time to do proper research into the program to ensure that it is what you want to do.

Unrealistic Income Claims And Guarantees It is illegal to make a guarantee that someone will make money from a business opportunity. Therefore be absolutely vigilante of any program which does this. Any claim like “You can make $10,000 in 2 weeks” is unrealistic and should be treated as a way to entice you to join the program. Look out for them and be extra careful.

No Proper Legal Disclaimers Every legitimate business or program should have proper disclaimers on their websites. Important disclaimers are the Terms of Service or Terms and Conditions, Privacy Policy and Income Disclaimers. If a website does not have any of these then you should take care before proceeding. Also look for the About Us page and any other features like a Contact Us page that helps you to get in touch with the owner of the program in the event you have a complaint.

No Refund Policy Every program or company that offers a business opportunity should have a refund policy especially if you are exchanging money for a product. If there is none then I would not join this program as there is the issue of getting your money back if you are not happy with your purchase.

Reason #8

Take No Action

Many people accumulate a wealth of knowledge about how to make money online but take no action to implement what they have learnt.

It is obvious that they do not make any money online.

Even if they do take some action they are inconsistent with that action.

How To Fix It

You can have the right mindset, invest in great education and have the best support system, but you will never make money online if you do not take action.

This is the most important thing. Go figure.

To often people have all the important attributes of an entrepreneur but the one thing that’s cheating their success is the fact that they do not do anything with what they have learnt.

Therefore if you want to make money online, start doing! Simple!

Start putting into place what you have learnt. So if you are starting with affiliate marketing, then start with a product and promote it.

When you start the process of making money online, it does not fall into your lap. You actually need to do work to make the money. This may involve creating a blog post, doing video marketing or running ads.

Whatever it is you have to do something in order for the money to be created.

Once you start taking action, be consistent with the activity and continue working and building it to make it grow.

Eventually your efforts will pay off.

Final Thoughts

To make money online it is possible. There are so many people who are coming into the online space and learning how to do it but some learn faster than others. Some learn the right information too.

There is so much mis-education out there, but if you are determined to succeed at making money online then you need the right outlets to learn from.

I hope this article has provided some value and insight to help you understand what it actually takes to make money online. Making money online is not easy. It takes a lot of hard work and effort. For example, I started network marketing in 2014 and only brought my business online two years later in 2016. It actually took me eight months to fully understand how to make money online and to start successfully earning an income online.

I have no special skill or talent. I simply committed to learning how to sell a product, how to talk to my audience and how to provide a service.

Anyone can do what I do but you only need to have the will to persevere.

Good luck with your endeavours. You can make money online. You simply need to fix every reason why you cannot make money online and see how things improve for you.

This means that regardless of where you are, you should be able to earn an income and make a living effortlessly. This post is here to give you some ideas and inspire you to take action.

Here Are 10 Ways To Achieve The Digital Nomad Lifestyle

1. Become A Social Media Manager

Almost every business has a social media account.

Whether that is with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest.

However they do not have specialised members in their team to manage these accounts. That’s where social media managers come in.

The way that most social media accounts are set up, also makes it easy for an individual or company to take over someone else’s account.

It then becomes simple to deal with tasks like uploading relevant and engaging content, answering follower’s questions, engaging with followers, responding to messages, advertising to grow their brand and attract more followers.

|Getting paid as a social media manager

As a social media manager you can create a retainer with a set rate or you can ask for payment on an hourly basis.

If you are managing the advertisements of the account you can ask for a percentage of the revenue or income that the company makes as a result of your effort. This will then give you the opportunity to engineer your income as you can then scale advertisements to make it more profitable for you and the company.

Social media managers can charge between $50 to $500 just for consulting. You can also arrange to do a complete social media strategy or agree to set up a business’ social media account.

|How to find work as a social media manger

Start by setting up your very own website. This will help you stand out from the crowd. On your website include some information about you, if you have testimonials add them in there and make sure to add a contact page.

Aim for professionalism. Get a professional email from Namecheap or Godaddy.

Create your social media pages and ensure that your branding is consistent. So if your website is www.johnsocial.com all your social media accounts should have that same name.

Start a blog and show off your expertise by creating fresh content regularly. Invest in paid advertising. With ads you can obtain targeted traffic really fast.

For ads I love Google Ads, Bing Ads and Facebook Ads.

If you do not know how to use them then try out the following courses that will help you master each of these avenues:

When running ads, direct the person to a capture page so you can start building your email list. I love using Clickfunnels for my capture page builder. They offer a 14 day trial so you can always test them out to see if you love it just as much as I do.

When you drive visitors to a capture page some of them will not immediately turn into customers. So it is important that you have a solid email followup strategy.

Use email marketing software like GetResponse or Aweber for your follow ups. Of course your email strategy will include converting subscribers into customers, building relationships with your subscribers and nurturing them.

|Other ways to find work which may not be as effective but can still work include:

• Freelance job listing sites. Sign up to Upwork or Freelancer.com and post a listing for your service.
• Cold calling. This is a painful task but it works. Just be aware that it may be hard to convince businesses to hire you because it may not appear to be a professional way to provide your service.
• Word of mouth. Speak to as many people as you can and ask them to share the word.
• Cold emailing. This is just like cold calling and may not produce the best results. One advice, do not send a mass email to a list of companies that you are interested in working with. This looks so tacky and sleazy. Rather send a personalised email to each business and add a little compliment in there to break the ice.

2. Start A YouTube Channel

Travel vlogs are so popular on YouTube.

You can document your travel lifestyle and create a brand around it. Or you can create content that educates your audience or is purely for entertainment purposes.

A great example of a travel lifestyle vlogger is Alex Chacon on his YouTube Channel Alex Chacon. Prior to YouTube Alex told me that he was on his way to medical school having just finished his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas. When he decided to start YouTube he took a break from his studies, sold everything and jumped on his “motorcycle to travel the world. That trip took me from Alaska to Argentina in 500 days….I haven’t looked back since.”

Starting a YouTube channel is easy but the hard work comes in by attracting followers.

Of course you want your content to be engaging. It can be an entertainment based channel where you provide content that is amusing or an education based channel where you teach people how to do something or provide reviews on products.

|If you do decide to create a YouTube channel and invest your time in growing your fan base there are two ways that you can monetise it.

Google Adsense

Most YouTubers make sufficient income solely from the Google Adsense program. However to create a sustainable income from this source, aim to have in the range of 100k and more subscribers.

Affiliate Marketing

There are so many affiliate products, programs and networks that you can join in whatever niche you decide to start to make a full time income. In my article 6 Profitable Niches For Affiliate Marketers and Bloggers, I outline a huge list of affiliate programs for different niches.

I am sure you will be able to join a few programs from there and get started earning an income on YouTube with affiliate marketing.

If you have a blog and want more traffic to your blog then you can also use YouTube as a traffic source.

Ahhhhhh the power of video is so amazing. It helps you to connect with your audience and people see that you are a real person who they can resonate with. It’s also a great platform to grow your brand and build relationships with people.

3. Start an Ecommerce Business

Ok so you might be thinking that eCommerce should be the furthest thing from a digital nomad’s mind right?

Well actually eCommerce done the right way is perfect for any traveller who wants to earn a sustainable income fast.

Here’s the secret.

|Dropshipping

Dropshipping is the process of selling products online without having an inventory and without having to do your own shipping.

So just who does that? Well the dropshipper of course? You do you think?

You can enter into an agreement with a supplier or wholesaler who will provide you with products to place in your store. However when there is a sale they will package and ship the products on your behalf.

You can also arrange to have your products sorted, packaged and shipped by fulfilment centres. Simply arrange with the supplier or wholesaler to provide bulk product orders to your preferred fulfilment centre.

|How to start an eCommerce business?

To start your own dropshipping eCommerce business, is very easy. Companies like Shopify and Woocommerce provide eCommerce platforms that make it simple to build online stores within minutes.

|Two ways to start a profitable and successful eCommerce business

Do it alone. You can spend hours learning everything there is about building online stores, adding products to your store, finding products that convert and selling products online. You can end up investing your money in the wrong tools and resources, get overwhelmed real fast and start to doubt if making money with an online store is for you.

Take a proven shortcut that pinpoints the exact strategies you need to focus on to grow a profitable eCommerce business. I always value courses because it helps you to save a lot of time and gives you the right information you need to get the fastest results.

4. Sell Your Services On Upwork

Upwork is a place where you can advertise your freelance services.

There are tons of businesses that are looking for both amateur and professional freelancers and you can do your work remotely.

In most cases you would be required to exchange time for money. Therefore if you want more of a freedom lifestyle as a digital nomad then this may not be the best option for you.

If you don’t mind spending a few hours out of your day to provide your service then keep reading on.

With Upwork you can advertise literally any professional service. So if you can do clerical work, graphic design, custom creations, web development or social media management then this is where you would go.

The best thing about Upwork is that you make the rules. You can provide your own hourly rates or if you prefer a fixed fee then you can state your own terms and conditions for being hired.

|Fiverr

Another freelance platform is Fiverr. Anyone can get started with any freelance service by charging $5.00 for their work. Of course you can charge whatever rate you want but Fiverr is where most businesses go to for the smaller jobs.

Don’t be put off by this however. I say make the platform work for you if you have a skill or service you want to promote.

Both Upwork and Fiverr also showcase the best freelancers using testimonials and ratings. This is how businesses choose who they want to work with.

As with anything else you must build up your profile. The best tip I can give you to get your foot in the door, is to provide your service for a lower rate, get a few stellar reviews, then increase your rates to what you would normally charge.

When I started my online business there were many things that I outsourced such as design and web development. I think it is an absolutely essential service that they are providing.

5. Start A Blog

Oh blogging! This is my baby.

Go figure right when I have my own blog.

It is the most comprehensive way to make an income from anywhere in the world however it is the most intensive! Labour intensive I mean. Haha! just kidding.

But seriously, starting a blog requires a lot of time to create and add content. But when you have enough content to keep your readers engaged, it can be a profitable and passive way for you to make money.

So you get more time to actually sip a Pina Colada and lay on the beach.

But don’t just create a blog for creating a blog’s sake. When you do that, that’s just a hobby.

You want to blog and treat it like a business. This therefore requires putting out content regularly, building a loyal following, providing value and monetising it.

Of course you need to monetise it right?! How do you expect to make money?

|You can monetise a blog in so many ways:

• Affiliate marketing
• Offering your own services
• Ecommerce
• Online courses

The opportunities to make money from a blog are endless.

|What you need to start a blog

A Blog of course. In my article The Ultimate Guide To Starting A Successful Blog I take you through how to start your own blog using WordPress and Bluehost for only $3.95 per month.

Affiliate products. You can start a blog on any subject in the world and there are so many affiliate products you can use to promote on your blog. Take a look at the programs I recommend in various niches in this article here.

A capture page to turn your visitors into subscribers. It is so important that when you are starting an online business, that you build an email list from the beginning. Your email list will be your loyal tribe who will trust your suggestions and buy anything you recommend. For capture pages, I have come to love Clickfunnels. LeadPages, GetResponse and Aweber also provide the ability to create capture pages but they are not as snazzy as Clickfunnels.

Email marketing. To connect with your subscribers you need to email them regularly so it is important that you have an email autoresponder doing the work for you. Aweber is my go to email marketing software but GetResponse also provide a great service and offer you 30 day trials so you can test them out and see which one works for you.

Design software. I use Picmonkey to create the beautiful images you see on this blog. Come on. Make your blog look appealing and attractive.

6. Remote Jobs

Most people are unhappy with their jobs and more and more companies are realising this. Chances are that the career you are pursuing or the company that you are working for, offers remote work where you can choose to work from home or from anywhere in the world.

If you have a job already you may be able to take it on the road.

Don’t assume that your job does not allow remote working. If you don’t ask, you will never receive.

This is why I would recommend that you try and negotiate an agreement with your employer about being able to work remotely.

7. Brand Ambassador

If you already have a massive following on social media accounts or you’re great at building an online presence fast and networking, then becoming a brand ambassador for companies might be a good idea for you.

|Who are brand ambassadors?

Brand ambassadors are people who promote a company’s products or services and represent the company’s image in a positive way.

So if you have over a million subscribers on YouTube, you will most likely be sought after because of the influence you have over your audience by just doing a review of a product or service.

Travel vlogs tend to get very popular quickly so it can help you to document your nomadic lifestyle and talk about the different places you are visiting. Make it fun and entertaining. Then you can promote certain hotels or international B&Bs and get paid to do so.

|How do you become a brand ambassador?

Sometimes depending on the size of your following, companies will reach out to you making the process simple.

To help with this make sure that you have a sponsorship or advertising page set up if you have a website. Explain the type of sponsorships and brands you are looking to secure, a list of your marketing stats and other companies you have worked with (if any).

If you are not yet established this is where you will have to roll up your sleeves and ask for sponsorship.

Join brand networks. Here are a few:

• Socialix
• Massive Sway
• Sponsored Tweets
• Socialstars
• Collectively Inc

With brand networks you are required to create a profile, include stats about your social media networks and a price you are willing to accept.

Find a few companies that you are interested in working with and contact them. Make the proposal remembering the WIIFM method. Companies will work with you when you can show them that you can drive sales to their business. So ensure that you have a great marketing plan

8. Sell your own Apparel

This is another avenue you can explore with Ecommerce.

Thankfully you can also do this remotely with the right company that ships the finished product for you so you do not have to worry about that.

When I started my eCommerce business early this year, this was one of the avenues I explored to sell custom design t-shirts, sweaters or vests.

I used a T-shirt print on demand company called CustomCat. You will upload your own design to their systems remotely and when you have a sale, the order is sent directly to CustomCat who take care of the fulfilment for you.

They also handled any returns on my behalf.

Other companies that have the same model are:

• Teespring
• PillowProfit
• Printful
• Teemill

If you do not want to worry about marketing the product then you can try Merch By Amazon. They are a print on demand service by Amazon for selling t-shirts. All you have to do is upload your t-shirt design and Amazon takes care of the selling process for you.

One thing about Merch By Amazon is that it does take some time to get approval into the program. It took me just about three months or so to get approved so I would recommend that you apply as early as possible and wait it out.

In the mean time you can still sell your own apparel with the other print on demand companies I mentioned above but use Shopify or Woocommerce as your eCommerce platform.

9. Freelance Writing

If you never struggle to write content you can take advantage of that and get paid to write.

Heck you can even make a business out of it, instead of a side hustle.

Writing projects can be in any niche that you can think of. There are so many places that you can look to, to find the best writing jobs in markets that you love:

• Upwork sign up for Upwork and upload your profile. Then look for gigs that suit your criteria.
• Contentgather they are a content writing service that connects writers with businesses who need content for their websites. Content include blog posts, product descriptions, product reviews, how tos, tutorials and lots more.
• Freelancewriting.com make money here by writing content. They also have a jobs board where you can source many freelance writing jobs
• FlexJobs is another great platform to find remote flexible writing gigs
• Problogger is a jobs board where you can find long term freelance writing work
• Contena Pro this is a paid service and there are advantages to relying on a paid jobs service. Contena Pro makes it way easier to find suitable jobs for you faster. You can also avoid all the competition there is to find the best writing jobs, thereby saving a lot of time and maximising your productivity.

10. Affiliate Marketing

You can do affiliate marketing with a blog which is the long winded approach or you can do affiliate marketing by direct linking and using ads to help you find your target audience.

There are many companies that have affiliate programs that you can join and promote specifically for the benefit of earning an income from it.

|Which program should you join?

If you are using this method I would recommend finding a program that you have used and can recommend or already have results in.

For example, you can join a weight loss affiliate program because you have lost weight from the product. It will therefore be easy for you to recommend the product because of your results.

You can join a branded affiliate program because you love the brand and so it is natural for you to recommend it.

|Affiliate Marketing With The Four Percent Group

One company that has allowed me to find my footing in the online business world is the Four Percent Group.

They are an internet marketing web class that has taught me everything that I know about making an income online and growing a successful business online.

What Is Affiliate Marketing?

In brief, affiliate marketing is the act of promoting other people’s products to attract a sale and earning a commission when the product is sold.

So if you promote an eBook which belongs to someone and you are an affiliate of that eBook, when the eBook is sold, you may get a 20% commission from the sale of the product.

The commission rate depends on how generous the owner of the product wants to be.

There are many companies that promote affiliate marketing but in this post I will focus on ClickBank.

What Is ClickBank?

ClickBank is a website that hosts many affiliate products. To make money with ClickBank it requires you to set up a free account and select the product that you want to promote.

There are many different ways that you can promote these products. This guide will take you on a step by step journey to starting with ClickBank and you may then decide which method of promotion you want to use.

At any time you want to promote or sell a product you must remember three key things:

• You need a place where you can promote the product. This will be a website but you do not need a huge blog or website to start.
• You need a product which is popular and which has a high potential to convert into sales.
• You need a lot of people to see your product in order to get sales.

This guide will teach you all of that so let’s get started.

Choosing A Niche

When starting ClickBank affiliate marketing, the first thing you need to consider is the niche you would like to promote in.

Your niche can be in any subject area and to help you decide, here are four guidelines to assist you:

• Choose three subject areas and decide which one you most enjoy and you would be happy to build a business around
• Do you think you can genuinely help people in that subject area? If you can then consider which subject area would be the most lucrative.
• Which subject area has the most longevity. You want to choose a subject that is evergreen. Evergreen means that you can promote the topic all year long without it losing any relevance. Seasonal items are not evergreen.
• Do you think you can contribute to the desires of people and answer to their pain points when thinking about the subject?

If you have found a subject, don’t worry about changing direction later on. You can always choose another subject area depending on the response that you get.

Have you thought about a subject? Great. Let’s move on.

Create A ClickBank Account

Create a free account with ClickBank here. Start by clicking the blue button Create Account.

Next you will be required to enter your Personal Information, Banking Information and Account Information.  

If you already have an account with ClickBank then you can move on.

ClickBank does not support some countries so if you are unable to create an account because of your location, you will be notified once you have entered your country.

ClickBank Categories

Now that you have created your account and you have chosen your niche you can select a product from the categories that are available on ClickBank.

To do this log into your account and select Marketplace from the menu at the top.

You will then be taken to this page where on the left you will see the categories you can choose from.

You can also go through Clickbank’s own guidelines “How To Find Products To Promote” as they will help you through the process as well.

Be sure to check out their Knowledge Base if you are new to affiliate marketing and want more resources to look at to help you start.

From the Categories select your niche subject area. For the purpose of this post I will select the Health And Fitness niche.

ClickBank Subcategories

ClickBank also has sub categories to help you get very specific about your niche.

So if you select Health And Fitness be sure to choose the sub category that best represents the sub niche you would like to create your business in.

When selecting a niche, you never want to choose a broad niche. The reason for that is because there is so much competition in the marketplace that you need to stand out.

Even though there is a lot of competition it does not mean that you cannot find your place and be successful with it.

To be successful it is important to drill down the niche to a sub niche where there is still a lot of demand but not so much competition.

To find a sub niche you can go to Google and see what people are searching for.

Using the Health And Fitness example I have typed a few keywords in Google to start.

You will see that Google has given me 10 different sub categories which represents what people are searching for the most. I can add these subcategories to my list and choose one.

Next, open the Google Keyword Planner tool which will help you see how many searches are carried out for the sub niche category and how competitive it is.

Update: Google Keyword Planner Tool is no longer a free tool. It is now only available to Adwords customers. If you are looking for a low budget keyword research tool, then consider Keysearch.

To use the Google Keyword Planner tool, you must have a Google account [Update: a paid Google Adwords account]. To create one start here.

Once you have logged in select Search for new keywords using a phrase, website or category.

Plug in each sub niche you have found for your category into the box Enter your product or service and wait for the keyword results. Your search results will look something like this.

This tells me that the sub niche has low competition and a decent number of people are searching for these keywords every month.

I usually like the number of searches to be above 100 and it is even better if it is above 1k. Therefore a product that includes a weight loss diet meal plan or helps the reader find weight loss foods would receive a good number of hits and is a product that I would search for in ClickBank.

If there is no particular product in ClickBank that closely matches your research results you can always choose another niche. Do not be so closely attached to the niche that you thought about. Be prepared to change direction if you have to.

One thing to remember is that when you are doing affiliate marketing you are doing it with the reader in mind. So it is never about you.

Give up what you love and start serving the passions of other people. When you do this you will make more money and your marketing efforts will be easier.

Choosing A Product

When choosing a product from ClickBank there are a few metrics to look at on the product menu to help you find those products that sell well.

Pay attention to the gravity score, the avg %/sale and the avg rebill total if there is any.

|Gravity Score

ClickBank’s gravity score tells you how many sales the product had in the last 30 days. The higher the gravity score, the more likely the product converts well into sales.

In the above example the product gravity score for the 3 Week Diet is 96.14. This is an ideal product as it indicates that it may be a top performer.

Compare that to the product above it, Anti Diet Solution which has a gravity score of 31.16.

That is not to say that I would not promote this product. You can still promote this product and make sales if you know how to promote it well.

I usually look for products where the gravity score is between 50 and 100. A very high gravity score such as that over 100 means that the product converts very well but it is also competitive.

To get great results for yourself you should aim for a gravity score of between 50 and 100.

|The Avg%/Sale

This metric tells you how much you will receive if the product is sold. In the example above, the selling price is $29.32 and the average percentage that you may receive is 75% of the selling price which is $21.99.

It is entirely up to you to decide if this is a good commission for you.

Personally when I am promoting any product I choose products which have a high commission rate where I am compensated $20 or more. If you would like to see my super list of high paying affiliate products then click here.

|Avg Rebill Total

The average rebill total tells you whether the product is subscription based meaning that the purchase is a monthly recurring purchase.

Products which have an average rebill total is great for passive income opportunities. It means that you only need to do the work once by securing the sale, then the income for that sale will continue without you doing any additional work.

That’s cool right?

So using the metrics that I recommended above you will be able to select a product that you are happy with.

How To Promote ClickBank Products

Amateur marketers look for the easiest ways to promote a product but which may not be the most effective.

By not understanding marketing strategies it can be to your detriment as you can end up wasting a lot of time and money.

Therefore I want you to understand that when you are promoting a product on the internet, it is important to start building an email list.

You can build an email list in any niche that you choose and you can do anything that you want with that list later on such as promoting relevant products to it.

When you build a list, nurture it, build a relationship with it and you can always tap into your email list at any time. If you have a good responsive list this will ensure that you have long term stability in your business.

You can also use your list as a traffic source to generate more sales.

Therefore if you would like to make money with ClickBank I would strongly recommend that you create an email list.

To promote your ClickBank product and start creating an email list you need two tools:

• A lead capture website
• An email autoresponder

|Lead Capture Page

Your lead capture website is a single page website which you will send people to for your product.

If you are promoting a product on the internet, of course you need a website right?!

You do not however need to set up hundreds of pages of content. You need only have one page with content on it, to attract people to your product.

To create your lead capture page you have a few options:

Clickfunnels offers you a 14 day free trial

GetResponse offers you a 30 day free trial

LeadPages offers you a 14 day free trial

When creating your lead capture pages you can follow the tutorials within each of the platforms or you may read my article 4 Awesomest Lead Capture Pages You Must Use to get a better understanding of how each lead capture page builder compares to each other and what it can do for you.

I use LeadPages for my marketing and I wrote a review of it here.

|Autoresponder

You will also need an email autoresponder so that you can create your email list.

GetResponse and Aweber are great ones, however they are paid platforms.

GetResponse starts from $15 for up to 1000 email contacts. Aweber starts from $19 for up to 500 email contacts.

MailChimp starts from free for up to 2000 email contacts.

If you decide to use Clickfunnels this program must be used with a separate autoresponder if you are not selecting their Etison Suite plan. If you are selecting their basic plan then it can be integrated with either GetResponse, Aweber or MailChimp.

Adding Content To Your Lead Capture Page

What content do you want to write?

You want to write content that provides solutions to people.

So using the Weight Loss example and looking at the results that I got from Google and the products that I found on ClickBank, I can select key pieces of content from there and transfer it to my own lead capture page.

Let’s take a look at how this is done.

I selected the Three Week Diet product.

When I clicked on that product I was taken to a sales page. View the sales page here.

I will take certain key phrases and testimonials from that page and include it on mine. I also see that the creators of the page have their own lead capture page pop up which gives me more ideas.

What I will therefore do is use the content from this lead capture page, a bit of content from the sales page and create my own unique lead capture page content.

The biggest tip I can give you, when you are promoting ClickBank offers, do not be tempted to use the tools provided by the creator.

You want to create unique content so you can stand out from everybody.

Using the information I sourced from the 3 week diet plan my content could include:

“Download a free copy of the 3 week diet plan and discover how you can easily lose up to 23 lbs of body fat in 21 days”

I will also include some of their pitch from their sales page.

Now that you have an idea of what I would include you can shape the content for your own landing page.

Here’s an example of what your lead capture page may look like if you are promoting a ClickBank weight loss offer.

Notice how the lead capture page offers something for free. Doing that acts as bait for the viewer and is a great way of getting their email address in exchange for your free offer.

Creating Email Newsletters

What do you do with the email addresses that you are collecting? Well for starters you need to email the persons who provided you with their email address.

This is called building a relationship and is all part of the sales process.

This may be a burdensome way of making money but it is the most effective way… so do not worry.

When you build a relationship with your email subscribers it creates trust and they will be more inclined to buy products from you.

Using Done For You Scripts

The creator of the Clickbank product may provide email scripts for you to use.

However you want to be careful about using the exact same script as everyone else. Your goal in any marketing is to stand out.

And you stand out by creating unique content.

Of course you can model after the email scripts and write it in your own words if you choose. The reason why you should create unique content is because email accounts like Hotmail or Yahoo can recognise content as spam when many people are including the same words in their emails.

If this happens too often they identify your email as spam and send your message to the user’s junk mail. You do not want that to happen as your efforts will be in vain. You always want your messages to land in the inbox!

Therefore take some time to vary the wording of each email script and write it in your own way.

Getting People To Your Website

Lead capture page ready? Check!

Autoresponder ready? Check!

Let’s now work on getting people to your website so they can see your product or offer.

This is hardest part for most marketers and it is all about trial and error.

There are two ways in which you can get people to your website – the free way and the paid way.

|Paid Methods

Paying for people to come to your website is called paid advertising. Those people who arrive at your website is called traffic in the internet marketing world.

There are many places that you can go to, to pay for traffic.

Google Ads, Bing Ads, Facebook Ads are some of the top places that you can go to, to get large amounts of people to see your offer.

Of course in order to master these traffic sources it is best to learn how to use them before throwing money at them. You may utilise Udemy’s courses to help you. I would recommend the following for Google and Bing:

• Forget Google; Bing Pay-Per-Click Advertising Traffic Course
• Pay-Per-Click 101: Intro to Google & Facebook Advertising

If you would like to use Facebook ads which is the best traffic platform then I would recommend the Social Traffic Blueprint Facebook Ads course by Jon Penberthy and Jubril Agoro. Facebook has over a billion users and you can leverage it to send people to your website.

|Free Methods

If you decide to use free methods then you must understand that doing so takes a lot of time. With paid methods you will invest money to achieve a desired result.

With free methods you will invest time to achieve a desired outcome. Time varies but it can take anywhere from months to years to see results.

If you want fast results, paid traffic methods are the absolute best as you can see results within days and even minutes.

Free methods that you can try include:

• Posting in Facebook Groups
• Google SEO with blog posts
• Forum Posting
• Pinterest Group Boards

|Posting in Facebook Groups

If you use Facebook, find groups related to your niche where they allow advertising. You can then post your link to your lead capture page with a short post telling users why they should visit your website.

To be successful at this make sure that you join 30 to 50 Facebook groups and post in them everyday.

|Google SEO with blog posts

If you decided to create a blog, then optimising it for search engine optimisation (SEO) is a great way to get a lot of free traffic from Google for people who are searching for a solution to their problem.

The key to making this work is to write blog posts that are about 2000 to 3000 words and contain keywords that users may be searching for on Google.

To find relevant keywords use the Google Keyword Planner tool to help you.

|Forum Posting

You can join forums like Quora or Warrior Forum and answer other people’s questions on there.

Once you have answered a question ensure that your link to your website is contained within the answer or a signature if it is permitted by the forum hosts.

To make this work you should answer questions which have high views or high followings. That way you will get maximum exposure to those people who are following or viewing the question.

|Pinterest Group Boards

Pinterest is a huge way to get traffic back to your offer link however it works best if you have a blog.

Most people do not realise that Pinterest is a search engine and people go there to look for solutions to their problems.

To start with Pinterest create a Pinterest business account. With a business account you will be able to access analytics to see how your pins are performing and what’s working and what’s not.

Apply for Rich Pins. Pinterest works better with an established blog or website so before applying for Rich Pins ensure that you have some content on your website.

When you apply for rich pins it allows your pins to show up more in the Pinterest search engines thereby driving more traffic to your website.

Create 10 to 15 boards related to your niche. You want to ensure that your boards are named after keywords that people will search for.

If you are promoting the weight loss diet plan, your board should be named Weight Loss Diet Plan.

Join as many group boards related to your niche. Search within Pinterest for group boards related to your niche and request an invite to join the board.

Usually the owner of the board will state how you can receive an invite. Simply follow the instructions to get your invite.

Once you have enough blog posts (you can start at five) start pinning to your own boards and the group boards you joined and remain consistent. Aim for on average 50 pins a day.

This may seem a lot and an overwhelming task but with Pinterest’s recommended scheduler Tailwind, it is possible to schedule your pins so that it is done automatically on your behalf.

What To Do When You Are Not Getting Sales

The biggest task that you may encounter as you try to make money with Clickbank is getting sales.

There is a right and wrong way to do everything and if you take my advice and do it the right way you can get massive results.

The one advice I can give to you, is to not do what every marketer is doing.

Every marketer is trying to get sales before they build a relationship with their prospects.

By building email lists and following an email follow up sequence where you provide valuable information to help your prospect, you will see better conversions.

Therefore focus on building relationships.

If you want to do affiliate marketing as a business, focus on long term results.

Therefore master the art, build a solid home for yourself on the internet by creating a blog and content that will help other people.

Once you have set yourself up properly you will be able to dominate the marketplace.

What Is Passive Income?

The best type of income there is, is the one where you do the work once and you get paid over and over for it – passive income.

It’s like putting blood, sweat and tears into a product one time then watch the money roll in when you receive notifications that you made sales.

The first time I heard about passive income streams was when I started looking for ways to make money online.

People look for dream jobs where they pretty much trade time for money but this is one of the worst ways you can make money.

Not to say that having a job is bad. It gives you an income after all.

But if you want to make an uncapped amount of money, where you literally make money whilst you are asleep, then a job is not the way.

There are many ways that you can make passive income and there are places which give you some sources that you can go to, to get started.

The purpose of this post is to be the first that gives you a wider list of ideas in one place, that you can easily implement to start earning passively.

The easy part is having the idea but get ready to roll up your sleeves and get to work.

The ideas you will get here take little resources to start but once the effort is all in and the product is finished you will be on your way to enjoying the fruits of your labour.

1. Sell an E-book

Want to share your knowledge with the world?

Want to teach something? Write an e-book.

It is not hard to write a 60 to 100 page book and put a price tag of let’s say $97 and sell it online.

When I created my first e-book, it took me a day to write a 37 page document.

I used Microsoft Word to draft the content and then saved it as a PDF.

If you are not good at writing, then you can simply outsource the work to a freelance writer on Fiverr or Upwork.

Any design for the e-book cover can also be outsourced on Upwork but if you are creative then you can use Canva or PicMonkey to design your e-book cover.

Once your book is finished upload it on WordPress.org or Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing so that your potential customers will be able to download the book when they purchase it.

WordPress and Amazon merely act as the host where you can upload the document as a media file and have a link where the customer can download the product.

Once you have your finished product you are ready to market it on the internet via social media outlets or arrange for some affiliates to promote your product for you on sites like Clickbank or Clickbetter.

2. Create a blog and use affiliate links

Affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways to create passive income.

You need only start a blog, like this one that you are reading, in whatever niche you enjoy.

Then include some affiliate links to products that you would recommend to your audience and get paid when they buy the product or take a certain action.

If you want to get paid on the action of a visitor, such as opting into a form or downloading an app then you can apply to sites like Panthera Network or ShareASale and choose from offers available which pay the highest cost per action.

If you prefer to recommend products for sale, then Amazon Associates, Ebay Partner Network or Rakuten Marketing are some great affiliate companies that you can apply to and include their products on your site.

Once you have created your blog, it is important to send traffic to it.

People are not going to find your blog unless you promote it.

You can also optimise your blog for SEO so it can be found in the Google search engines.

3. Sell an online course with membership

Many people are turning to the internet to learn a skill so you can capitalise off of this by creating your own course.

You will be surprised to find all sorts of courses that are already making the rounds on the internet.

For example,

Audition Hacker by Rob Knopper teaches you how to rock your audition for any instrument that you play for the orchestra

So You Wanna Be A Fashion Designer by Julie Mollo teaches you what else? How to be a fashion designer.

Fierce Grace Collective by Carrie-Anne Moss teaches women how to nourish their souls and connect with themselves.

So you see, you can literally create a course about anything. Use the course platform like Teachable or Clickfunnels to start creating your online course.

These two platforms make it easy to connect payment processors so you can easily receive payments from your customers via Paypal or Stripe.

4. Join a passive income affiliate program

If you are not into doing much of the work yourself and prefer to let others take care of it for you, then joining a done-for-you affiliate program that specialises in passive income streams is the easiest way to earn money passively.

There are so many affiliate programs on the interwebs that offer this type of model.

The idea here is to purchase the affiliate product which could be from $50 a month to even over $3000 annually. Depending on the price you pay, you will always receive a percentage of the sale when you send a referral to the program.

All programs are already in place. Your only responsibility is to promote the product.

The earning potential for this idea is uncapped.

5. Create an Ecommerce Store

This can be huge if you know what you are doing. If you don’t, don’t worry. I’ve got you covered!

Creating an eCommerce store is simple.

Many websites provide platforms to enable you to build your store on it without worrying about design or coding.

A good place to start is Shopify.

Once your online store is created you can source products from wholesalers who will provide the stock at a low price.

You can then sell the product at a higher price that allows you to earn a considerable profit.

For wholesale items check out the Alibaba Marketplace. This is the largest directory of Chinese suppliers that provide products to accommodate any niche.

You can communicate with the vendors or manufacturers directly to ship products individually to the customer or order in bulk if you wish to stock your own inventory.

If you are in the US and prefer not to hold your inventory then you can use fulfilment centres such as Dollar Fulfillment who will package and ship the product to your customer for you.

Whilst operating an eCommerce store involves a lot of work on an ongoing basis such as providing customer support, ensuring that the inventory is well stocked or keeping the site up to date, you can try to automate all these processes as much as possible by hiring virtual assistants from on Upwork.

6. Create a comparison site

Many people want the best product for the right price.

If you help them find it, then you can make a whack of money at the same time.

That is why comparison sites are such good passive income streams.

For example, you can compare credit card benefits, pros and cons.

All that is required is good indepth research about different credit card products. You can compare as many as you can and set up a table listing each pro and con so that it is easy for the customer to compare the benefits side by side.

Once you have set out the comparisons, you can clearly state which card is the best product and create a link for the customer to apply.

Most credit card companies have affiliate programs so you can become an affiliate and get paid when a customer applies for a card and gets accepted.

The payout by credit card companies for providing leads to them can range from $35 up to $125 per qualified applicant.

7. Sell advertising space on static websites

There are many ways that you can provide advertising space on a website.

One way to do this is with the traditional banner ads. These are images that are found on the top, side or bottom of a webpage and which click through to a product or offer.

You can also provide text links within a blog post as these are said to be super high converters.

To create this advertising space you will need to start a niche blog or website such as a cooking blog or travel blog.

Once your website attracts a good number of viewers per day, offer space on your website for advertisers.

A great place to actually start selling advertising space is Buy Sell Ads.

Guest posting is another way in which you can offer advertising. In fact it is a smarter way where advertisers write high quality useful posts that are relevant to your audience and ties into the product or service that they are promoting.

Do not stop at one. Start creating 10 of these static websites, send traffic to it and you can potentially earn a full time passive income from it within let’s say a year.

8. Lead capture websites for local brick and mortar businesses

The contact details of leads are quite valuable to businesses when those leads convert into customers.

Think of cosmetic or dental businesses where the lifetime value of a customer can be in the thousand of dollars.

Just how much will a business like that be prepared to offer you for leads’ contact details?

My buddy John explains how he does it.

He creates a blog dedicated to carpet cleaning services. The blog is optimised for SEO so that it appears on the first page of Google.

Within the blog he gives away a free report on the mistakes that most carpet cleaners make so as to attract leads.

He then contacts the local carpet cleaners offering them leads for their business. These companies already advertise with Yelp for their services so he offers them leads for the same price as Yelp.

This is how he made a cool $15,000 from one business just for sending them leads.

9. Create Iphone, Ipad or Android Apps

The internet is HUGE for information on how to build apps.

So if you are not tech savvy in this area try The Appmakr  or iBuild App to start creating your own app.

If you do not want to create your own app then hire a developer from Upwork or Fiverr.

Apps are big business but you have to be in a profitable market to make a decent sum of money.

Gaming apps dominate the top grossing apps and make their money from in app purchases.

Dating apps like Tinder makes its money from charging users to bump their profiles to the top of the list amongst others in their area.

Music apps like Spotify or Pandora make their money from charging subscription fees for unlimited music with no advertisements.

Call and text apps like Dingtone make their money from charging customers to create internet numbers and making internet calls from anywhere in the world.

Do not try to invent the wheel.

The key to this idea is to repurpose an app that people already love and will pay for.

Find out what complaints people have about the existing app and introduce features that solve those complaints.

Essentially you will be creating a better one.

If you already have an audience you can easily market your app or you can let trusty affiliates promote the app for you.

10. Create a YouTube Channel

If you know what people are looking for and can create content for it, then you have an awesome idea to work with.

The problem however is that people are too shy to turn on their cameras and let the world in.

But the reality is, even if you create a website or blog, people prefer to watch videos on how to do something rather than read a 2000 word blog on the same topic.

It is really simple to create a YouTube channel and start creating content.

Most computers have built in cameras that you can shoot from.

If you wish to be a bit more sophisticated then head on over to Amazon and search for their best digital cameras that produce quality video output.

The next thing is to create content. It can be as simple as sitting in front of the camera and talking about a topic.

Or as elaborate as travelling the world and creating videos vlogs for your audience.

Once you have built up an audience, monetise your videos with ads or you can become an affiliate for products you would recommend in your niche and include affiliate links in the description box of the video.

11. Create a niched stock content for other people to use

If you’re good at creating beats or taking photos then you can set up a content library and make money off of the royalties.

A good example is where you create instrumental beats so that internet marketers can use it as the backdrop in their videos.

You can also create a library of stock photos that bloggers can use on their blogs.

Create a decent pricing structure that is competitive then market your product to churn in the money.

Another route that you can take is to partner with companies that already have the platform and the audience like Shutterstock, and let them do the work for you.

Just be prepared to part with a share of the revenue.

12.Create WordPress themes

As a web designer or developer you can develop a WordPress theme and sell it.

Don’t just create a theme for the sake of creating a theme.

Think about creating themes for a target audience. For example you may have pretty, girly themes for women or ruggish, handsome themes for the guys.

If you have no clue about webdesign then consider outsourcing the work to a designer or developer on Fiverr or Upwork.

You can sell your WordPress themes at Themeforest, Creative Market or Mojo Marketplace.

13. Make a book reviews website

This is like a comparison website but with a lot more content which gives the viewer an expectation of what they are likely to get when they purchase the book.

Some people also call it book blogging.

Read a book, review it and financially support yourself.

You will obviously join the Amazon Associates program to promote the books and embed your affiliate link within your website.

The key to a good book reviews website is to have as much traffic as you can to your website. If you sign up for Amazon you will come to realise that the affiliate payout is just about 5% to 10%.

A good book may cost anywhere between $25 to $50. I could be wrong.

With my calculations that would be about $1.25 to $5.00 per book sold.

You will therefore need thousands of sales to even start making a decent income.

To get thousands of sales you will need hundreds of thousands of views on your blog or website.

You can also build an email list and promote other related products to the list, such as book cover designs, freelance writing or book touring.

14. Make a product recommendation website

I recently saw a website like this in action.

Thinking about it, it really is not hard to create as all it involves is a static website connected to Amazon Associates with affiliate links.

There is no selling on the website.

All you are doing is recommending certain products and linking those products back to Amazon.

Gadget Review for example does a great job at reviewing high priced items and then leading the customer back to Amazon to complete the sale.

If the customer completes the sale or purchases any item on Amazon within 24 hours of clicking on the affiliate link, then Gadget Review earns a percentage of the sale.

You can spend about two weeks setting up this site so that it is SEO friendly. Include as many Amazon affiliate links within the article.

Ensure that your content is unique and of a high quality. Provide a ton of value so that the user feels compelled to click on your link.

15. Become a digital publisher

The idea behind this is to create an information product that people are willing to pay for. Kind of like selling an e-book or e-magazine but the difference is, you are not the creator of the product.

Someone will create the information product whilst you work on hosting the product for sale.

The outcome will be that you share in the profit of the sale or you can work out a deal where you pay a flat fee and you benefit from all the upsells, crossells, downsells, whatever it may be.

This somewhat resembles an affiliate model.

Before you start on this it is a good idea to test the product to see that it is in high demand and something that people will pay for.

Therefore research is absolutely paramount.

Some great examples of digital published content include digital magazines and creating subscriptions from them.

If you do not yet have an audience for a subscription model then you can monetise the magazine with Google Adsense or drop some affiliate links from affiliate networks like Panthera or ShareASale.

16. Create your own product or gadget that solves a problem

If someone has a problem that you can solve, well you have the answer to your next passive income idea.

If people are willing to pay for it, then you are capable of making money from it.

Let’s start inventing!

Create your own product or gadget then set up a simple online store using Shopify.

Spread the word of your store through networking or advertising and make sales.

The thought behind this is that you are selling one product but it will involve a lot of work to actually design and manufacture the product.

There are people that you can outsource the work to if you merely have the idea in your head.

Stocking the item will be another thing to add to the list as well as getting the item packaged and shipped to the customer.

This does come with a fair bit of risk but if successful has huge returns and is a serious passive income stream if you can market the product well.

17. Buy an existing online business

There are many people who will create businesses and flip them just to make an extra couple hundred thousand of dollars.

The plus side of it, is that you now have an automatic cash machine if the business is successful and generates a lot of money.

The down side of it is, like any business, there is a huge risk.

You have to study the portfolio of the seller. Ask a ton of questions before you invest your money in this idea.

If the business has decent cash flow then why is he/she selling it? Wouldn’t you want to keep that cash flow to yourself anyway?

On the other hand some people prefer to adopt a business as opposed to creating one from scratch. It takes out a lot of time from building it up and instead allows them to just jump in and keep the engine running.

Do not be too hasty to rush into any business deal. Know what you’re getting into and be sure that the amount that you pay for any business is how much it is actually worth.

18. License a product and sell it

If you like creating products, then this can be a profitable passive income source for you.

All you do is create a product in any niche and then distribute the license to it so that other people can buy it and claim it as their own.

This is called the resell of private label rights (PLR).

It is very simple to implement. You can create any product that you want.

An e-book or online video is the best type of product there is.

The product can be in any niche and on any topic. Then you can sell the product with PLR rights attached to it.

You can sell the product to individuals or to make it an automated selling platform, create a membership site with Clickfunnels and provide your subscribers with new PLR products every month.

19. Sign up to Reward and Discount Programs

Hey this is not going to make you a bunch of money but at least it is going to make you something.

And you can earn money from just about doing the simple things that you do everyday.

Sign up to rewards programs like Ebates or Swagbucks.

Do what you would normally do like buy things online and then receive cashback on your purchases.

Again not an ideal way to make money passively but you still get a payout for doing absolutely nothing more than what you already do anyway.

20. Sell things on Ebay

This idea can be passive if you have the selling process done automatically.

You may want to hire a virtual assistant to take care of the setting up and listing of products.

You can also use a fulfilment center like Dollar Fulfilment to sort, package and ship your products to your customer.

To start selling on Ebay find a supplier on the Alibaba Marketplace for whatever product you want, then get the product imported and start selling.

To profit successfully from this income stream, the key is to get the right product and mark it up at the right price.

You can make a good 30-40% profit margin if the price is competitive.

21. Design custom t-shirts, shoes, mugs and sell them online

I Love Grandma T-shirts or My Dog Is Better Than Yours Mugs are great ideas to target passionate niche lovers.

Sites like CustomCat or PillowProfits allow you to upload your design, pick the product and they take care of the fulfilment of the product to your customer.

All you have to do is set up your shop on an eCommerce platform like Shopify and sell away.

The key to making a good deal of money is knowing what people are passionate about. This can work in any niche provided that the idea is fun and unique.

You really want to targeted those super crazy passionate followers.

Check out Just Love Cats who specialise in, you guessed right, cat merchandise.

22. Give all your content away for free and ask for donations

This is a popular passive income stream for most bloggers and YouTubers, especially those who have a huge audience.

The idea is about creating a lot of valuable content that can touch someone’s life, help them or inspire them then ask for donations in a nice way.

The payment system must also be very simple for the donator to get the job done in as little time as possible.

You Are Creators on YouTube does this perfectly. They are a law of attraction channel that produces content to help people learn how to create their own lives. They provide motivation and inspiration for goal setters and dream chasers.

They also have over 300k followers and each of their videos net over 20,000 views.

They then created a single video asking for donations.

I would not rely on donations as a reliable source of income but hey I am only showing you what’s possible.

23. Build an online education site

Similar to creating an e-course but with a lot more meat on the bones.

How this works, is that you create an online member site where there is a library of content in any niche that you want.

To make it valuable to the user it will be useful to include live webinars, Q&As, forums and mastermind groups.

Of course this will not be a cheap product for the customer and neither will it be cheap for the creator.

To be honest it may not even be passive unless you can outsource elements of the site to staff members so they can fully operate it.

In order to set up this type of online education site will require a lot of work and maybe a full time developer as well who will be able to add customisations just the way you want it.

24. Create podcasts or video based interviews with experts

To earn passively you must be prepared to give away a great deal of content for free.

Once you have warmed up your audience with your free content, you can then charge for premium products in a membership site.

You can either charge per download or offer a monthly subscription for a recurring fee.

This would not be too hard to set up. You can use WordPress and integrate it with Clickfunnels for the membership site function.

Your podcasts can be based on any topic. I have seen people provide dating advice or internet marketing advice.

With experts in the mix most of the content is already created for you. All you need to do is upload and release.

25. Create your own subscription box

This passive income idea may not be the finest but it sure can make you some serious dough if you can offer a unique concept to an audience that is willing to buy.

For example there are hair care subscription boxes, facial beauty subscription boxes, even law of attraction subscription boxes.

And the work behind it is not too hard either.

It may take a fair investment for the products but once you have marketed this idea well, the returns can be insane.
