How To Win By Giving Away Freebies In Your Business
I am an affiliate with links to an online retailer in this blog post. When you read what I have written about a particular product and click on that link and buy something from the retailer, I can earn a commission. Please note that I only recommend products that I truly believe in and use in my business. Please read my full disclaimer here
I’ll let you in on a secret – giving away freebies is one of the ways that I drive leads into my business and get more sales fast.
In case you did not know before, giving away freebies in your business can actually help you. But there is a caveat which I will discuss later.
You may ask yourself “…giving away free things that I paid for or spent time creating… how in the name of free-beezy can that make me money??”
Online businesses are popping up everywhere and there is a ton of competition.
When you expect customers to pay for your product or service, sometimes it is a better strategy to give them a taste of what you have to offer.
Like a sample for instance.
Great offers are valuable and insightful that make potential customers feel that the goal that they want to achieve is achievable.
It gives them a reason to come back for more.
This is where you have the opportunity to sell your product.
Let us see how this works in practice.
7 Freebies You Can Give Away
There are many things that you can easily create that you can give away for free.
Doing so helps you to attract more leads into your business but ONLY if that free thing is of a perceived high value.
Let us talk about this perceived high value stuff for a minute.
Whatever niche you are in, think about how your potential customer may think about the value of something and how it can help him or her.
For example, if you are in the beauty industry selling hair products, a worksheet of how to stop breakage and thinning edges for good may be something that someone whose hair is prone to breaking and thinning will value if it can really help them.
If you are in the weight loss industry, then an e-book of six core exercises for faster weight loss will be of value to someone who wants to lose weight quickly.
And you do not want to give away any old thing.
Not only must the content be of a high value to be irresistible, the form of the product should to.
Some Great Freebie Forms Are:
1. Free invitation to a community group
In my article, 8 Tips To Help You Get More Referrals To Your Business With Attraction Marketing , I spoke briefly about how this could help with increasing trust and loyalty.
It allows your invitees to get to know you and you know what they say about the know, like and trust factor.
When someone trusts you and the work and value that you put out, they are more likely to buy from you.
2. A Free Planner Or Scheduler
If you teach people how to eat healthily, then a free planner or scheduler helps to add authoritative power to your brand or name.
It will show that you have enough knowledge on the subject to guide them.
And guess what?
You reap the rewards when the user feels better about themselves because of YOUR recommendations and they need to have more of what you have on offer which will only mean sales.
3. A Free Video Consultation
Face to face consultations are a huge part of your sales process.
Not only does it show that you are a real person, but if you can verbalise your approach to help your potential customer visualise the results, then you can score big.
It also beats having to go back and forth with email conversations where the prospect may simply get lost or lose the sense of your ideas.
4. A Free Webinar
Right now, webinars are exploding in many online businesses.
No wonder! After all it is THE best way to showcase your results and sell your most valuable and high valued products.
In webinars I have seen people show testimonials, proof and results of their customers which helps viewers make up their mind whether they want to invest in their business.
It also allows viewers to ask questions and interact with the host which may assist their buying decision.
5. Free One-On-One Coaching
This recommendation comes with some reservation because it can use up a lot of your time.
I remember when I started my online business and I offered this as a bonus to getting people to sign up in my business.
The sale of the product was easy, no doubt I got a lot of it, but devoting time to helping others get started by using one-on-one coaching can help you lose your time in your business. Is it really worth it?
Ask yourself, is the time that I am willing to give proportionate to the price of the product?
So products that are sold for over $500 may be better suited to offering these type of freebies as opposed to low priced products.
A better use of your time could also be group coaching calls.
6. Free E-book
This is a tried and tested suggestion because I am currently using it and getting massive amounts of leads into my business.
I was actually sold on the idea by my mentor, Justin Verrengia and it actually works.
People see a book as something that has a lot of content and authoritative power to it.
This is how you build your name as an expert.
Do not be scared by the thought of having to spend endless days creating this. It actually took me a few hours to put together mine.
It is easier than you think, especially when you are writing about a topic that you love.
No writer’s bloc!
7. Free E-Course
This is another suggestion that I am using in my business to get leads.
This can actually be used as a precursor to a paid course or product.
It allows the user to get a taste of what is to come and helps them feed out if they like your teaching style.
You can also use it to measure your own teaching style and tweak some of the things you do to get better results.
Mistakes You Make When Giving Away Freebies
1. Not collecting email addresses or some way to follow up with the lead.
I see this in network marketing a lot where marketers prospect on the streets or at the shopping mall.
Want a free sample?
Great! They have the prospect’s attention but what happens next is they have given away a sample that they probably had to buy but got ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in exchange for it.
This is THE best way to damage your business.
A better way is to offer the sample in exchange for a contact number or email address.
Hey! People will take your freebies if you are giving it away to them but do not expect them to call you at all in return.
They just will not!
Be a lot smarter in your marketing strategy and get those contact details!
I do not prospect offline, but I like using the Clickfunnels to get my leads’ contact details when I give away free stuff.
2. Giving away too much for free
Listen! You do not want to give away everything and your whole life.
Be strategic about what you are giving away.
So give away the why’s, when’s and what’s but hold on to the how’s.
The why’s, when’s and what’s are about theory but most people want practise. They want to know HOW to get results, HOW to do what you are teaching.
Let them pay for that!
3. Not adding enough value to your freebie
If you are creating a content freebie, it should be of a high perceived value.
You want to create content that make your leads think you know what you are speaking about and your product can help them.
If you have sample freebies make sure that its content is fresh and “does what it says on the tin”.
Bottom line: you love your leads but you do want them to come back for more!

And of course I could not leave without cheekily sticking in my own freebie here. LOL
